Uniform Curriculum for all Schools

A big step has been taken by School Education Department to improve the standard of educational system in Pakistan.  The medium of instructions will be Urdu medium from grade 1st to 10th grade. Also, the school syllabus for all the Government and private schools will be same. The Punjab Textbook Board his going to change the syllabus of various classes of public sector schools from March, 2021. The changes have been made in different books from grade 1st to 10th grade.

Cheif Minister Punjab, Sardar Usman K BuzdarPunjab Chief Minister, Sardar Usman Buzdar has announced the medium of instructions across all primary schools of Punjab will be Urdu from the next academic year, commencing from March 2021.

In a tweet he said, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was aiming to impart education in National language at the primary level in the province. As per the findings of a survey conducted by the Department of School Education, Approximately 85% respondents, comprising teachers, students and parents voted Urdu as medium of instruction at the school level.

In accordance with new syllabus, the medium of learning for the students of grade 1st to grade 5th will be Urdu medium. The same syllabus will be implemented from the start of 2021 by the schools working under School Education Department.

Expected Syllabus: –

The changes that are expected and to be made in the new syllabus will be as: –

Class Syllabus to be changed
Prep English, Urdu and Mathematics
One / Two English, Urdu, Mathematics and General Knowledge
Three Mathematics and General Knowledge
Four Mathematics and Social Studies
Five English, Mathematics and Social Studies
Six Geography Only
Eight Mathematics
Nine Computer and Pakistan Studies
Ten Computer and Pakistan Studies

On the other hand, Education Minister, Shafqat Mahmood while addressing in his speech on June 27, 2020 in National Assembly said that our education system was divided. Due to this, the chances of students whose medium of learning was English medium had better chances of progress. Whereas, the students who came to study from government schools which were mostly Urdu medium became more difficult to reach this level and even the certification of madrassa children was not accepted by any board therefore, they had no career.

The second loss was that the mind and thinking of our nation was shattered. The education system tells you how to think and see the world. If you make up your mind in a special way, you will see the world in the same way. After that, we intended to try to unite this fragmented education system and the nation. That’s why we’ve created a uniform curriculum for all government, private and madrassa students.

Opinions about Uniform Curriculum: –

Punjab Teachers’ Union General Secretary Rana Liaquat Ali said that the government’s decision to change the medium of instruction was a positive step and will help in reducing the school drop-out rates, dramatically. “Children are given their primary education in their mother language worldwide,” he added. Ali suggested the provincial government to take necessary steps to provide primary education in the native languages rather than the national language.
